Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the CPRA, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Have completed all doctoral degree requirements within the last 3 years (extensions available)

  • Must not hold a tenured or tenure-track faculty position

  • Must not have previously held a Tri-Agency postdoctoral award (including Banting)

  • Research proposal must be new, original, and distinct from the doctoral thesis

  • Applicants may apply a maximum of three times

Eligibility Extensions Available For:

  • Parental or caregiving responsibilities

  • Medical or family-related interruptions

  • Military service, war, or natural disasters

  • Industry or government employment (minimum 6 months)

  • Clinical training (non-research related)

  • CIHR – Health and biomedical research

  • NSERC – Natural sciences and engineering

  • SSHRC – Social sciences and humanities
