The International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) Africa Programme, organized by the German Bundestag, is designed for young African leaders who are interested in politics, democracy, and social development. Successful applicants will spend four weeks in Germany learning how parliamentary systems work and developing leadership skills they can use in their home countries.

About the German Bundestag Scholarship

Since 2020, the German Bundestag has been offering this scholarship to outstanding young graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa who are interested in democratic leadership.

The program gives selected participants the opportunity to:

Learn about Germany’s parliamentary democracy

Understand political decision-making processes

Participate in workshops on leadership and governance

Build international networks

Develop ideas that can strengthen democracy in their home countries

One of the major highlights of the program is a one-week internship placement in the office of a member of the German Parliament.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, candidates must:

Be a citizen of one of the eligible countries

Be under 30 years old by January 1, 2027

Have completed a university degree

Have strong interest in politics and leadership

Be socially or politically engaged

Have good German language skills (minimum B2 level)
