Job Summary

Velindre University NHS Trust is seeking a passionate Data Analyst to join the Digital Services team. This role works collaboratively across the Trust and wider NHS Wales to provide transformative digital systems and insight-led services.

The position comes during an exciting period of change, including the opening of a world-class cancer centre and the transformation of Welsh Blood Service operations, delivering cancer care closer to home and developing new services, including plasma for medicines.

An ambitious digital strategy underpins this work, aiming to revolutionise service delivery through innovative technologies, digital inclusion, and embedding data and insight into everyday operations. Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality Data and Insight services to improve lives through excellent care, inspirational learning, and healthier people

  • Operate as part of a digital multi-disciplinary team, engaging colleagues across the Trust to co-produce robust, user-centred analytical solutions

  • Apply multiple analytical techniques to support the delivery of analytical projects and contribute to the wider Data and Insights programme

  • Maintain high standards of quality and timeliness for analytical outputs

  • Contribute to curiosity and creativity within Data & Insights and the wider Digital Services team

  • Actively participate in learning networks across the NHS and beyond

  • Support the delivery of the Trust’s digital strategy, embedding a user-centric, agile ethos

  • Improve data literacy across the Trust workforce through easy-to-understand analytical products and informal skills transition

Qualifications and Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an analytical discipline (operational research, systems dynamics, data science, mathematics, computer science, social science, or similar)

  • Evidence of statistical and/or analytical training

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of data management and governance processes

  • Knowledge of analytical techniques for service/process design or redesign

Essential Experience:

  • Working closely with customers and stakeholders

  • Creating analytical products from data to insight

  • Delivering analytical insight to non-technical audiences

  • Delivering projects within challenging timescales and competing priorities

  • Testing software systems

Desirable Experience:

  • Service planning and forecasting in the public sector

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of a range of analytical techniques and their practical application

  • Ability to interpret data and create reports

  • Communicate complex analytical findings appropriately

  • Data curiosity, critical questioning, and innovative thinking

  • Active listening and tailored communication

Desirable Skills:

  • Understanding of Agile methodology and service design principles

Other Requirements:

  • Welsh speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards

  • Disclosure and Barring Service check required
