Role Overview
Lancaster University School of Mathematics (LUSoM) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Headteacher (Curriculum) to join the school from August 2026. This role can be full-time or part-time (minimum 0.8 FTE) and offers the opportunity to lead curriculum development, mentor staff, and contribute to the school’s mission of nurturing high-achieving students in STEM subjects. Skilled Worker visa sponsorship is available.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential:
-
Recent teaching experience with high-attaining students.
-
A-level teaching experience in Maths, Further Maths, or Physics.
-
Leadership experience in a middle or senior leadership role.
-
Expertise in analysing student data at a whole school level.
-
Collaboration on curriculum development and course design.
-
Experience preparing students for university entrance, including UCAS support.

Excellent classroom teaching ability and deep subject knowledge.

Good honours degree in a STEM or related subject.

Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, DTLLS or equivalent) and Qualified Teacher Status.

Strong IT skills and ability to learn new systems quickly.

Ability to inspire students and build rapport with staff and external partners.

Excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills.

Commitment to the educational vision, self-development, and a student-centred approach.

Positivity, resilience, reliability, integrity, and commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Safeguarding.

Eligibility to work in the UK and Disclosure and Barring Service clearance.
Desirable:

Experience in outreach activities and research-based pedagogy.

Experience using innovative pedagogies, including ICT, group work, formative assessment, or research projects.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:
-
Lead the Mathematics and Computer Science departments, including staff line management.

Mentor teaching staff and provide performance support and training.
-
Contribute fully to LUSoM’s mission, principles, and curriculum aims.

Lead super-curricular provision (Curriculum X) for high achievers beyond the A-level specification.

Co-ordinate the UCAS application process, student careers guidance, and project work.

Lead on timetabling, student transfers, and academic progression meetings.
Teaching:

Deliver high-quality lessons maintaining outstanding teaching and learning standards.

Be accountable for student outcomes across the curriculum.

Contribute to school events such as open days and outreach activities.

Salary: Paid on L1 to L3 of the Sixth Form Colleges Leadership Spine, pro-rata £60,449 to £63,762 per annum (dependent on experience)
