Job Summary

The Estates Hard FM Team at Barts Health NHS Trust is responsible for day-to-day repairs, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and operational testing for a wide range of building services and equipment located across the Trust.

Barts Health NHS Trust is looking to recruit a highly motivated and flexible Maintenance Electrician to join the multi-skilled Estates team at the Mile End Hospital site, providing operational maintenance services throughout the Trust and its associated properties and sites.

The role requires a recognised building services electrical apprenticeship or equivalent, with post-qualification experience within a complex building services environment. Duties include statutory maintenance works to ensure compliance with current HTMs, Electrical Regulations, ACOPs, and Trust policies.

The Electrical Craftsperson will undertake duties of a Competent Person (CP) in accordance with relevant NHS HTM guidance and will maintain and repair electrical generators, refrigeration equipment, electrical distribution systems, air conditioning, air handling plant, and associated systems.

Applicants must be capable of working on their own initiative to carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, and specialist engineering duties. This position requires participation in the Estates emergency on-call rota, including out-of-hours working across all Barts Health NHS Trust sites.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will act as the Electrical Craftsperson within the in-house electrical maintenance team and will liaise with or coordinate directly with electrical contractors in the day-to-day running of Estates service delivery within Mile End Hospital and/or Royal London Hospital Retained Estates under Barts Health Estates & Facilities Services.

Under the direction of the Senior Electrical Craftsperson, Estates Supervisor, and/or Estates Manager, the Electrical Craftsperson will ensure that all buildings, plant, and equipment are electrically serviced and maintained in accordance with statutory and mandatory requirements. This includes planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, minor works, major overhauls, and replacement works.

The Electrical Craftsperson is expected to be a self-starter and able to work independently.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised mechanical or building services City & Guilds / NVQ Level 2 or 3 standard apprenticeship or equivalent certified qualification

  • City & Guilds 18th Edition Certificate Requirements as defined by the latest Electrical Safety Code for Low Voltage Systems for Competent Person (CP)

Desirable

  • City & Guilds 2391 Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing, and Certification of Electrical Installations

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of lone working

  • Experience undertaking planned and reactive work

  • Experience of building maintenance and systems

  • Ability to follow detailed engineering and electrical drawings and specifications

Desirable

  • In-depth experience of healthcare electrical building services

  • Experience leading maintenance within an electrical team

  • Experience working successfully with electrical teams and contractors

Knowledge

  • Good working knowledge of Health and Safety principles within electrical engineering and building systems
