The Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) is a prestigious international graduate school offering a structured PhD program in mathematics jointly run by Berlin’s leading institutions—Humboldt University of Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, and Technische Universität Berlin—along with associated research institutes such as the Weierstrass Institute and Zuse Institute Berlin. Taught entirely in English, BMS provides advanced training across pure and applied mathematics, with students typically entering Phase I (coursework and qualifying exams) or directly into Phase II (doctoral research) depending on their background. Eligibility Criteria
For Phase I (Master’s Entry)
- Bachelor’s degree completed by summer of current year
- Strong academic background in mathematics
- High motivation for mathematical research
For Phase II (PhD Entry)
- Completed Master’s degree in mathematics or a closely related field
- Strong research profile and academic references
- Alignment with BMS faculty research interests
- Secured funding for a minimum of three years
Application Procedure
