ICTP & University of Trieste Med Physics Scholarships 2026, Italy (Fully Funded)
Applications are now open for the Med Physics Scholarships 2026 offered by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in collaboration with the University of Trieste. This prestigious Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics and Radiation Metrology is a fully funded, two-year program designed for physics graduates from developing countries.
Co-sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the program prepares students for careers as clinical medical physicists and radiation metrologists through a combination of academic training and hands-on clinical experience.

Program Overview
The program is divided into two phases:
Year 1:
- Coursework at ICTP in Trieste
- Advanced theoretical and applied medical physics modules
- Curriculum developed with IAEA experts
Year 2:
- Clinical training in Italian hospitals
- Or training in a Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL) for metrology track
- Research dissertation and final evaluation
The degree is awarded by the University of Trieste upon successful completion.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a degree equivalent to an MSc in Physics or a closely related field
- Typically under 30 years of age
- Strong academic record
- Research experience (preferred but not mandatory)
- English language proficiency
- Ability to meet Italian degree equivalency requirements
Additional requirement:
- Candidates from countries with active IAEA Technical Cooperation projects must apply through official IAEA nomination channels

- Academic performance
- Research and professional experience
- Recommendation letters
- Gender and regional balance
Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview.
