About Centre for Education and Coaching

The CEC is an online tutoring directory connecting families with tutors for high-quality one-to-one tuition. Centre for Education and Coaching is currently expanding its team of online English tutors working with pupils across the UK curriculum.

This is a flexible, self-employed opportunity. Tutors create their own CEC profile, set their own lesson rates and availability, and choose the levels they wish to offer. Parents can find tutors and book and pay for lessons through the CEC platform.

There is no monthly membership fee. The CEC retains 20% commission on lessons booked through the platform, and tutors keep 80%.

Who Centre for Education and Coaching Is Looking For

Centre for Education and Coaching is particularly interested in tutors with demonstrable experience of teaching or tutoring English within the UK education system. This may include one or more of the following:

• Primary English
• 11+ English and verbal reasoning
• Key Stage 3
• GCSE English Language and/or English Literature
• IGCSE English Language and/or English Literature
• A Level English Language and/or English Literature

Applicants should understand the curriculum, examination or entrance-test requirements for the level or levels they intend to offer.

Centre for Education and Coaching also welcomes applications from UK-based English graduates with strong subject knowledge who are earlier in their tutoring careers.

A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification alone is not sufficient for experienced-tutor applications; applicants must also be able to demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the UK curriculum and the levels they wish to teach.

The Role

As a self-employed CEC English tutor, you will:

• deliver engaging, individualised one-to-one English lessons online;
• assess each pupil’s needs and adapt your teaching accordingly;
• explain language, literacy and literary concepts clearly, accurately and patiently;
• help pupils develop relevant skills such as reading comprehension, writing, analysis, spelling, punctuation and grammar;
• plan appropriate lessons and learning activities;
• monitor pupil progress and provide appropriate feedback to pupils and parents;
• create a professional, encouraging and supportive online learning environment;
• manage your own availability and choose how many pupils you wish to tutor.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

• have suitable English subject knowledge for every level they intend to offer;
• have relevant experience of the UK curriculum, unless applying as a UK-based English graduate at the beginning of their tutoring career;
• communicate clearly and professionally with children, young people and parents;
• have reliable internet access, appropriate equipment and a suitable environment for delivering professional online tuition;
• hold an appropriate DBS certificate or be willing to obtain one;
• be able to complete Stripe Connect onboarding in a supported country, as all lesson payments and tutor payouts are managed through Stripe;
• be willing to work on a self-employed basis and take responsibility for their own tax and other statutory obligations.

How the CEC Works

• You set your own lesson rates.
• You choose your own availability.
• You decide which curriculum levels you offer.
• You choose how many pupils you take on.
• You may choose whether to offer a free introductory taster session.
• The CEC provides your parent-facing tutor profile and the booking and payment infrastructure.
• There is no monthly membership fee.
• The CEC retains 20% commission on completed lesson bookings, and you keep 80%.

The advertised £15–£70 hourly range represents illustrative potential earnings rather than a guaranteed wage. Tutors set their own lesson prices, and actual earnings depend on the rates they choose, completed bookings and the 20% CEC commission. The CEC does not guarantee a minimum number of pupils, lessons or working hours.
