Job Summary

The Data Analyst sits within the Digital Data & Technology (DDaT) Operations team, adding value for patients by improving and developing information services across the Trust and wider health and care system.

The role ensures information is an effective component of the Trust’s DDaT target operating model, working alongside others to deliver continuous improvement. This position supports the “engine room” of DDaT operations, transitioning from outsourced arrangements to an in-house delivery model.

Main Duties of the Job

The Data Analyst will support the Senior Information Analyst to ensure the information team can deliver on its service level requirements, transforming Trust data into timely and accurate information.

The role provides analytical support, develops innovative ways of presenting information, and creates new analyses to monitor and improve performance within the Trust. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting provision of a comprehensive information and analysis service for internal and external reporting.

  • Performing complex analysis and interpretation of health information.

  • Supporting healthcare activities, clinical disparate systems, case mix, patient flows, and operational processes to meet divisional objectives.

Job Responsibilities

1. Data Analytics & Information Provision

  • Lead on Data Analysis: Perform advanced data analysis using statistical methods, business intelligence tools, and data modelling techniques to generate insights supporting Trust strategic objectives.

  • Reporting and Interpretation: Create detailed reports from complex datasets, translating raw data into actionable intelligence.

  • Data Integrity and Quality: Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data sources, applying formal quality assurance processes.

  • Routine and Ad Hoc Reporting: Produce routine and ad hoc reports to meet NHS and regulatory requirements.

2. Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicate Complex Data: Present complex analytical results clearly to clinicians, managers, and executives.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clinical, operational, financial, and performance teams to align analysis with objectives.

  • Present Findings: Lead presentations of data insights in meetings and workshops.

  • Data Advocacy: Promote data quality, integrity, and effective use across departments.

3. Support for Decision-Making & Strategic Initiatives

  • Provide analytical support for strategic decisions, benchmarking, performance analysis, scenario modelling, and resource allocation.

4. Resource Management & Development

  • Oversee data resources, maintain reporting tools using SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau.

  • Ensure infrastructure supporting data analysis is robust, secure, and efficient.

5. Continuous Improvement & Development

  • Promote a data-driven culture, provide training to Trust staff, and refine data processes for efficiency and accuracy.

6. Governance and Compliance

  • Adhere to information governance, data protection, NHS guidelines, and national standards.

  • Follow formal change control procedures for statistical analyses.

7. Innovation and Development of Analytical Tools

  • Apply advanced analytics techniques, develop dashboards, automate routine reporting, and enhance data accessibility.

8. Cross-Team Collaboration & Support

  • Collaborate with finance, workforce, and operational teams for comprehensive insights.

  • Support senior analysts in KPI production and performance improvement strategies.

  • Act as liaison between informatics and other departments.

9. Personal and Professional Development

  • Maintain professional knowledge, stay up to date with analytics tools and NHS best practices.

  • Share knowledge and innovations across the Trust.

Person Specification

Education, Qualification, and Training

Essential:

  • Degree level or equivalent.

  • Experience in analysis, investigation, and resolution of complex statistical queries.

  • Contributed to Information Management policies.

  • Commitment to ongoing training and development.

Desirable:

  • NHS or health sector experience.

  • Experience applying NHS Data Standards and knowledge of the data dictionary.

Experience

Essential:

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, SQL, and Management Information Systems.

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, interpret data, and communicate findings.

Desirable:

  • Experience in an acute setting.

  • Experience delivering training on technical information.
